My parents are coming for Christmas. I’m happy, my wife is stressed.
It’s my parents, I don’t care, it’s her in-laws, the pressure is on.
Cleaning, baking, decorating, everything needs to be perfect. I appreciate the need to want things extra special for when guests come over, and I have a small understanding of the extra tension that happens between daughters and Mothers In-Law, but I don’t buy into the hype.
Still, I’ll play along, pitch in, and help my wife put on a good show while my parents are visiting.
So that means cleaning. A few years back I extolled the virtues of buying your wife a vacuum for Christmas. It’s something for the house, it’s practical, and my wife actually appreciated it. But I’ve discovered something else in the 4 yrs since – she likes it even better when someone else uses it.
We’ve got the boys well trained on the Hoover Air Cordless. They’re great at cleaning up after dinner, and vacuuming their playroom and bedrooms. It’s less than 10 pounds, easy to maneuver, and perfectly built for kids to pitch in.
But, in-laws are coming, so vacuuming is not enough.
Which is why we are introducing the Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe to the clean team around here. And, apparently, since it’s my mother that’s coming, this baby is my business.
The Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe was very easy to set up. Two screws into the handle, some water and cleaning solution into the buckets, and I was pretty much ready to go.
It’s lightweight (less than 19 lbs) to carry up and down to different floors, and easy to handle with one hand. The compartments are easy to fill, drain, and clean.
Despite the Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe being easy to use, scrubbing carpets with isn’t a ‘spur of the moment’ tidying up task. You need to move furniture, you need to plot your route around the room to make sure you don’t get stuck in a wet spot, and you need to make sure you’ve got time out of the house to let the carpet dry.
After a morning of moving things around in the basement while my wife was out with the boys she came home to .. that smell. That smell that says “something has been done in the house and it’s cleaner and my Mother-in-Law will notice.”
Sure, the carpets were brighter and cleaner, the volume of dirt I dumped in the sink told me that, but it was the smell that got the smile. The Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe cleans your carpet, to be sure, but it makes the room smell clean too. And that’s an even bigger win.
Just ask your Mother-in-Law.
