[twitter]I think September is a much better time to celebrate the new year. After a long two month vacation, fall seems like a much fresher start for things. The kids are getting new shoes and new clothes. They’re in new grades and starting new sports with new schedules.
So I look at fall as the time when I change things in my life too. With a Team Diabetes half marathon on the horizon in January, I’m taking to more training and since the routine of packing lunches for the kids is back in full swing, I’m packing lunches for me now too.
Best Buy has some great ideas to get the kids ready for fall and new routines, whether they be in kindergarten, elementary school, or high school. There are also many items that work just as well to get you back on track and ready to get into a new fresh frame of mind this fall.
Have a look at what I’ve picked to make life easier for me, see if there’s anything you might like, and then scroll to the bottom for your chance to win a $250 Best Buy Gift Card to get it all for fall.
It’s time to salad up, and this little package is the perfect way to keep your food fresh and crisp until lunch break, even in a locker all day.
Pop out the insert in the lid and keep it in the freezer. When you’re ready to go, snap it back in and it will keep your veggies cold. There is also a genius little container that screws into the lid for salad dressing. I drop in some olive oil and balsamic and I’m good to go. You could also use it as some dip for crudités. It’s got an easy snap lock to keep things tight, even if the kids grab this to toss in their bag.
This is for the boys. Their lunches need to cover off all the food group bases, they don’t like anything touching, and the sections of the bento box are changeable if they want to have noodles or a sandwich.
Something like this is also perfect for the new ‘litterless lunch‘ requirements many schools are mandating. You can easily remove cookies or granola bars to pack in these sections. Carrots, and cucumber slices in another, and then their main lunch in the other two sections. No litter, easy clean up and carrying too!
No, the kids do not need a laptop backback for back to school – yet. This one is for me. I need an easy way to take all my gear with me when I travel. I roll with a MacBook Air, iPads, iPods, iPhones, chargers, backup chargers, notebooks, and books. I should pack more efficiently, but I don’t. So I need something with lots of pockets, zippers, is sturdy, and comfortable.
I love the cushioned section for the MacBook Air that is easy to get at along with many other compartments for my gear. There is a dongle inside so I can clip my keys, zip up my money, and just lots of pockets for sorting things. The straps are cushioned, and I’m looking forward to bringing this with my mobile office inside when I head to Bermuda with Team Diabetes in January.
I’m always running out of juice on the road. Whether it be live tweeting an event, or just scrolling through my feeds while the kids are back in swimming lessons, my juice never lasts long enough. You don’t want to be the guy squatting on the floor next to the wall outlet, so pack along some extra electrons in your pocket.
The size of your fist, this Powerocks Magicstick will get you 1 (maybe even 2) full charges for your phone while you’re in the wild. For busy university students running between classes on campus, or executives on the go, it’s mandatory. I’m just hoping my little boys hang on another decade before they start making mobile demands of dad. (I can dream)
