My movie theatre budget is going to Marvel this year.
From Black Panther to Avengers: Infinity War, the only time it seems I’m in a movie theatre, it’s seeing a popcorn popping action movie that my kids want to see.
Which is fine. Their films are fun, but they’re not really the ones I want to see.
That’s why I’m thankful for the TELUS Optik On Demand button that serves up everything I need for a Mom and Dad Movie Night. Toss the kids to bed early, cosy up with the basement tv, and enjoy a night out without the cost of a babysitter.
Remember the good old days of hitting the video store and wandering the aisles looking for something you’d both agree on? The TELUS Optik On Demand button is like that – but at home, and easier to navigate. You can scroll through trending, featured, or new releases, or search by a specific title to find something you can both agree on.
Here are some of my suggestions for a Mom and Dad Movie Night.
If you’re still behind on the big Oscar movies from the spring, click On Demand and find Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri, I, Tonya, and the Best Picture Winner: The Shape of Water
This film is quirky and gorgeous. Did you love Amelie 20 years ago? Well let’s ignore the fact that Guillermo Del Toro has been accused of copying parts of that film and just call it an homage.
It’s sexy, it’s romantic, it’s sweet, and it’s beautifully shot. It’s a fantasy film that has you completely buying in to the fact that a deaf janitor working in a secret government laboratory could fall in love with a sea monster from far away.
It’s not one for the kids, this is perfect for Mom and Dad Movie Night.
I was really hoping The Big Sick one was going to win some gold during Oscar season. Kumail Nanjiani and his wife, Emily V. Gordon, were both nominated for Best Original Screenplay for this super sweet romantic comedy that tells the true story of how they fell in love. Actually, it tells the story of how Kumail fell in love with his in-laws while his girlfriend at the time, was in a coma.
You can’t make this stuff up.
There are so many family threads to pull at in this story. From an immigrant kid dealing with old world parents, to breaking your parents’ dreams by pursuing a risky career (comedy), to getting to know the in-laws in an inter racial relationship, this will bring back all the memories when you were first dating.
You might want Fifty Shades Freed, Lady Bird, or Call Me By Your Name. They’re all there on TELUS Optik On Demand. They’re all the kind of movies you used to see in the theatre before you had kids, and now you get to watch on a Mom and Dad Movie Night.
Oh, and if you want to have those Marvel movies at home to watch over and over again because that’s your thing, well TELUS Optik On Demand has you covered there too.
This May, enjoy blockbuster superhero hits On Demand, including all the Avengers movies, all the Iron Man movies and more. And don’t miss the epic new Black Panther, yours to own from May 8 or to rent from May 15.***
Find these Marvel epics by pressing the On Demand button on your remote, then selecting Featured > Earth’s Mightiest Heroes > Marvel Cinematic Universe.
