When do you talk to your children about terrible events in the news? I don’t. They’re 8 and 5 and I don’t need to stain their empathy with such cynicism.
When it comes to talking to your kids about war, there’s no easy way to do it. War is glamourized, and yet it is ugly. Remembrance Day makes it real when I take the boys to the cenotaph and talk about the members of our family that have fought. It’s a time for silent reflection and a vow of never again.
