For these people, the gluten free trend has been a life saver. No longer scrambling to high cost specialty markets, people with gluten issues now find their lifestyle needs marketed in everything from pizza crust to tape.
While going gluten free is a medical necessity for some, it has also taken on cult-like status with many people choosing the die without medical need for it. And that can be dangerous.
Going gluten-free without a legitimate reason to do so doesn’t sit well with the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and Canada’s Food Guide who all continue to recommend whole grains as part of a healthy diet.
