I’m a last minute flosser. Once the reminder for the dental check-up pops up in my calendar, I will furiously try to scrub away 6 months of buildup with 3 days of flossing.
It never works. The hygienist can tell. The dentist can tell. I sit in the chair, shrugging meekly like a 6 yr old busted for lying over sneaking a cookie.
But things changed over the summer. I started using the Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum Connected, something my dentist and hygienist have been asking me to do for a long time.
And .. wow. I’ll get to that in a minute, first I asked my dentist why he was a Philips Sonicare guy. There are many different automated toothbrush models on the market, but in his exam rooms he has displays for Philips.
I figured he was getting a commission on them or something. He doesn’t, he told me.
He just believes in the product and wants his patients to have better dental health. It’s the sonic vibrations in the Philips toothbrushes that have him so impressed. Even if you don’t get right into the dirty spots, the vibrations can kick up (and out) stuff from between your teeth or under the gingiva (your gums).
He especially thinks it’s useful for people with orthodontics, crowns, and bridges, since all you have to do with the Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum Connected is just float it around your mouth. I get feedback if I press too hard, so I loosen up and the vibrations do all the work.
It is, literally, the healthiest my mouth has ever felt. I’m not just brushing my teeth longer (thanks to directions from the app that pairs with the Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum Connected), but I’m brushing my teeth better.
The app makes sure you get every corner of your mouth, and even nudges you to keep up the habit. It becomes a contest with yourself to “not break the streak,” collecting all the check marks and getting brushing tips to have better dental health.
The Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum Connected app will point you to trouble spots, help you with technique, tell you when you need to replace your brush head, and more.
With the Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum Connected, I’m not hammering away like a piston on my gums, I’m moving around my mouth equally, and even though I’m still not a flosser (shhhh), my dental health is better.
Dr Travis was impressed and gave me a big thumbs up while Sylvie, my hygienist, complimented me on my “firm gums.” That brought out a big smile.
I was sponsored by Philips to take the Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum Connected for a test run this summer, and I’m not stopping. The fact that I’m not embarrassed about going for a checkup and even if I don’t floss, I can still keep my mouth healthy has me convinced this works and is worth it.
My dentist is not sponsored by Philips but proudly displays the brushes in his office and encourages all his patients to use one.
You can pick who you want to believe, but the outcome will be the same: better dental habits that lead to better dental health.
