Best Book For First Time Fathers

[twitter]This is the book my brother gave me before Zacharie was born.

On the surface, Be Prepared: A Practical Handbook for New Dads, looks like any other kitschy book you’d give a parent to be. You know the kind, they appear as a thoughtful gift, but months later it’s still sitting on the shelf the spine perfect, the book never cracked once. That’s what this looks like – on the surface.

If you get this, or you’re giving it, you need to make sure the book is read. It’s written in guy’s language and explains exactly what’s going on, much like the What to Expect When You’re Expecting and What to Expect the First Year books that she’s reading.

Now when I say it’s from the guy’s perspective, it’s not written as if you’re a bumbling neanderthal that just wants to watch the game and will never change a diaper. It’s written from the perspective of someone who’s not pregnant and can’t fully appreciate all the changes that are happening to not only their partner, but life in general.

This is the best book for first time fathers, offering tips to entertain a toddler, how to properly photograph and video your toddler, how to cope with crying, and most importantly, it offers this sketch:

Best Book For New DadsYes, that’s what a newborn really looks like. Jeannie Hayden‘s art throughout Be Prepared: A Practical Handbook for New Dadsbe prepared a practical handbook for new dads is very clever and makes it an easy read and a mandatory resource for any first timer.

Which book got you through those first 40 nights?

My husband purchased this book for our first born and we BOTH enjoyed the realistic information that it provided us. Most of the books geared towards mommy’s to be don’t even provide some of this great info!

Skip Hop Studio Diaper Tote Handbag is awesome. So a lot of pockets – and not really those small, worthless pockets, either. All of the pockets are a excellent size and really aid keep everything organized. The handles are a great length and fit nicely more than the actual shoulder; the tackle straps also remain put on my own arm, which is actually important when you’re holding a baby. The bag appears good, too. Not as well fancy, but not too casual. (I’ve it in black) The material is soft (can’t feel of a greater word) so it’s easy to squeeze in to tight spaces – but yet it’s sturdy. I’ve a Fleurville Lexi carry and I really like it, too, but this tote is actually kind of inflexible. I think this Skip*Hop can turn out to be my everyday tote. It’s a bit large – so if you are not in to significant hand bags this may possibly be much better as an over-night baby diaper tote.
