LEGO camp. A week of building with bricks big and small. How could a kid say no?
Bricks 4 Kidz operates a number of summer camps across Calgary in various community centres and at their Creativity Centre just off 10th St in NW Calgary.
The centre has buckets of LEGO and assorted play areas. LEGO models made by staff and students line the shelf of the area.
There’s also a healthy selection of minifigs, Mixel packs, full LEGO sets, and LEGO t-shirts to tempt you after a full day of play.
The offerings at Bricks 4 Kidz vary from after school play time to weekend activities, school field trips, evening sessions, and summer day camps! The schedule breaks things out into half-day sessions, but you can book them back to back to make a full day summer camp experience that rolls from 9a to 4p.
Each session has a different theme ranging from Space Camp to Jurassic Worlds with some specialized camps for older kids to work on everything from animation and robotics.
Zacharie and Charlie took part in a Superhero session and a Mining and Crafting session.
Each day they’d have time for free play, team play, assigned builds based on the theme, and competitions making vehicles to rush down a ramp.
They’d get outside to play at a nearby park, and at the end of each session they brought home a little gift. There were Brick Forge accessory packs, daypack bags, keychains, custom-embossed bricks, and dog tags to mark their graduation from the program.
There were about 2 dozen kids in the day camp ranging in age from 5 to 12. It was mostly boys, but a handful of girls were up to the challenge of showing the boys what a master builder can really do.
What Zacharie liked best about day camp at Bricks 4 Kidz: “I really, really, really liked the free play and the awesome ideas that they do.”
What Charlie liked best about day camp at Bricks 4 Kidz: “Building the technic builds were my favorite.”
What I liked best about day camp at Bricks 4 Kidz: “The location was perfect, right near my office, and the play space area was bright and full of inspiration. A couple of young guys were on the team running the camp and could easily speak the language of the kids making it a relatable learning experience.”
