If you’re like me, your smart phone has replaced your camera and video camera as the go-to gadget for snapping pics and taking videos of the kids.

From super star goals on the soccer field, to cute school picture day outfits, the phone is what most of us will reach for first.

The problem is, many of us are doing it wrong.

It’s all in how you hold it, gang. And I’m not talking about getting a greasy finger over the corner of the tiny lens, I’m talking about vertical versus horizontal.

It’s going to get even worse with the new tall and skinny iPhone 5.

Think about how you watch tv. It’s horizontal. The aspect ratio is 16×9, not 9×16. I know a vertical hand orientation is the most comfortable for holding the phone when taking pics, or shooting video, but it’s not the best way to get the best image.
